Shocked residents told to leave building not 'earthquake proof'
The residents of an apartment block in canton Lucerne have reacted with incredulity after they were told they all have to leave as the building is not earthquake proof.
The building was bought by a pension fund only two years ago. The fund wants to evict everyone as they claim it needs renovation. The residents, some of whom have lived there since the seventies, say its only because the fund wants to raise rents.
One resident of the building in Kriens says if his home isn’t earthquake proof – then no other building the town is.
Under pressure from the press, the fund – Previs – is admitting the building is legally compliant.
