Families outraged after soldiers with norovirus sent home
Families of new recruits in canton Valais says the army was irresponsible to send the soldiers home after an outbreak of norovirus in the barracks.
Over 30 recruits caught the bug which causes vomiting and diarrhoea. Most were sent home – although 4 were considered too weak to move and stayed in the infirmary.
One father slammed the decision to send them home. He says the virus is highly contagious and could infect the whole family, including babies and the elderly. He says the recruits should have been quarantined.
An army spokesman says the decision to send the soldiers back to their families is being discussed internally.
