Construction fault building in Geneva cannot be saved
Engineers have determined there’s no saving a building on the Rue de la Servette in Geneva.
It will have to be demolished and rebuilt.
The building, which houses a Migros supermarket and a McDonalds as well as several apartments, was evacuated last October when several major faults were discovered.
The owners had already spent millions on an extension to the building when the problems were discovered.
It’s expected the demolition will take around 6 months and rebuilding around 2 years.
There are concerns the construction faults could be found elsewhere in the canton in buildings which were also built in the 1960s.
