Geneva banning plastic bags 2020
Free plastic bags will be banned in Geneva from January 1st.
The cantonal parliament passed the law in March. From next year, shops and supermarkets will not be able to hand out the bags at the checkout.
All relevant businesses have been sent information from the canton – some have posted signs in their shops to make sure all customers are aware.
The ban is all part of the canton’s plan to cut waste by 25% by 2024.
