Stray cats will not be compulsorily neutered
The Federal Government has rejected calls to make it compulsory to neuter cats which have not been chipped.
The government says animal welfare is a matter for the cantons.
It’s thought there are 100,000 stray cats in the country. But the government says a law to force all pet owners to chip their animals is too intrusive.
Many cantons have programmes in place already to sterilize stray animals.
But the government does agree chipping pets is preferable and cantons should have their own procedures to cut the stray population.
