Switzerland urges Turkey follow humanitarian laws
Switzerland is joining other western nations and calling for restraint as Turkey launches an assault on Kurdish areas of northern Syria.
The foreign ministry says an escalation of violence will have serious consequences on the civil population and urges that Turkey follow international humanitarian laws.
Turkey says it wants to create a ‘safe zone’ so it can resettle two million refugees currently in the country.
The UN Secretary General says there will be a meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva.
The UN Security Council will meet later today on the request of Western European members. But it’s unlikely to deliver a strong rebuke as the move has Russian support and the US has pulled out its troops to allow Turkey to enter the area.
