Tiger mosquitoes found in Schaffhausen
Environmental protection officers are trying to eradicate a breakout of tiger mosquitoes in canton Schaffhausen.

The Asian species as been spreading across Europe for years – but this is the first time they’ve been found in the northern canton.
The mosquito is capable of spreading tropical diseases – such as dengue fever - but they have to have bitten an infected person first. So, authorities believe there’s virtually no chance of anyone at risk.
Even so, pesticides are being used to kill the larvae. Locals are being asked to watch for more.
The mosquito has already been found in Zurich, Graubünden and Basel as well as southern Germany.
