Research bad news for glacier
New research by the federal polytechnic, ETH Zurich makes grim reading for mountain lovers.
It suggests climate change means the 23 km long Aletsch Glacier will be gone by the end of the century.
Even the best-case scenario shows the glacier’s mass down 60% by 2100. That assumes the world keeping to the Paris climate agreement and cutting CO2 emissions massively very soon.
But the more realistic outcome is the stunning ice river will be no more in 80 years.
