Water bottling plant scrapped
The proposed mineral water plant in the French border town of Divonne-les-Bains has been scrapped.
The decision was made by the mayor last night.
Vincent Scattolin says there was too much opposition from locals as well as Switzerland.
Many were concerned about how much ground water would be pumped and the amount of trucks that would be needed to deliver the bottles.
Swiss politicians were concerned about the environmental impact.
The agreement for the plant close to the Vaud border was signed by the previous mayor, Etienne Blanc, who’s now running for mayor of Lyon.
The town looks likely to have to pay compensation to the company.
