Women killed by rockfall in canton Bern
A woman has been killed in a rockfall near the Susten Pass in canton Bern. She was hiking with a male friend when she was swept away. The man was uninjured and was flown out by rescue helicopters.
The accident happened on Saturday morning. Police say a large section of the hiking trail has been closed and there’s no evidence of anyone else being caught up in the fall.
While the cause of this fall is unknown, geologists are warning they are likely to be more common as climate change is causing more rain and thawing permafrost.
