Self-service scooter companies warned to comply with Zurich safety rules
Local authorities in Zurich have warned start-ups behind self-service electric scooters that they may find themselves banned from the city's streets if they do not comply with new safety rules coming into force by the end of August.

The main requirement of the new rules is for scooters to have two separate brakes.
The deadline, extended twice so far at the request of the companies, comes as over 2000 scooters have appeared in Zurich alone since the city began issuing permits to the companies. The only company to comply so far is Circ, who are in an official partnership with the Swiss train company SBB.
