Bill submitted to force Facebook to have office in Switzerland
Facebook and other tech giants may be forced to have an office in Switzerland if they wish to operate in the country.
The move follows the revelations that two thirds of requests for information of users by the Swiss authorities go unanswered by the company.
The figures, unearthed by SonntagsBlick, show police asked Facebook for information 80 times in the first half of last year – most were ignored.
The company says it responds if it believes the request is ‘legally relevant’.
A Green Party MP, Baltharsar Glättli, has submitted a bill which would force Facebook to have a contact address in Switzerland.
