Animal rights groups are renewing their calls to ban the use of horses at the Basel Fasnacht after one slipped and fell on the road while pulling a carriage.

Onlookers were shocked as it took more than 15 minutes to get the stricken animal up on its feet again with the help of onlookers and firefighters.
There was a petition last year demanding the end of animal use at the annual festival.
Many Fasnacht organizers feel the banning of animals is an attack on the traditions.
