Government urges everyone to get vaccinated for tick disease
The government is urging everyone to get vaccinated against a potentially killer disease which is spread by ticks.
The infection, is called early summer meningo-encephalitis, and it’s on the rise.
It attacks the nervous system and can kill. Insurance companies will reimburse the cost of the vaccine.
Last year there were 380 cases, in the years before the average was around 100.
Ticks live in forests and will attach themselves to any warm-blooded animal which passes by.
Also on the rise is Lyme disease, which is again spread by the tiny animals. If left untreated it can be very dangerous. Although a course of antibiotics taken in time will fight the infection.
