Avalanche bursts through hotel
Rescuers are still checking for any missing people after an avalanche in canton Appenzell-Ausserrhoden crashed through a hotel. The 300-meter-wide snow fall broke windows and flowed into the carpark, pushing away cars in its path. Even a post bus was shoved to the side of the road.
Police say there were some injuries and many others in the hotel are being treated for shock.
The snow crashed down a mountain on the Schwägalp pass at 4.30 yesterday afternoon.
A staff member at the Hotel Säntis says there’s considerable damage.
Police are checking guest registrations to make sure everyone is accounted for. But they say they’re not taking any chances and searches are continuing.
