Army apologises over CHF 121m civil servants' annual expenses
Swiss civil servants rack up CHF 121m in expenses over the course of an average year, leading to an apology from the army who admit they spend too much.
The numbers were put together by the SonntagsBlick newspaper.
There are 34,800 government workers – and it works out at CHF 3,500 per person. In comparison, a large company will expect an average of CHF 750 per person.
The biggest spender is the defence ministry with a bill of CHF 45m. The head of the army, Philippe Rebord, admits a culture shift is required.
The figures exclude the Federal Council and the courts.
