Keeping track of cats for World Animal Day

National News // By Tay Kinnear // Oct. 4, 2018

Today is World Animal Day – and a campaign has been launched to make it compulsory for cats to be chipped.

Although many responsible owners do get their cats registered with the local vet – its not a legal requirement.

There are thought to be 1.7m cats in the country – most have happy homes, but up to 300,000 are stray.

If cats are chipped, then lost animals can be reunited with their families much quicker.

The campaign is being run by the Federal Veterinary Office and various animal rights groups.
