Thousands watch air force live firing exercise
Thousands trekked up the mountains yesterday to watch the Swiss Air Force’s annual live firing event
The range at Axalp-Ebenfluh in the Bernese Oberland is the highest air force firing range in Europe, at 2,200 meters, and the exercise always attracts thousands of spectators.
Organisers spend weeks planning for the influx, hauling portable toilets to the mountains and making sure the dangerous areas are fully sealed off.
The only way up is by hiking – and those wishing to watch the jets fire live rounds into the valley are warned it’s not suitable for young children or dogs.
