Would-be grenade attacker jailed for 10 years
A man who sent a grenade to the Swiss offices of an Albanian newspaper has been jailed for 10 years.
The unnamed man, who has joint Swiss and Macedonian nationality, has been convicted of sending the package 15 years ago. The police investigation had gone cold until he was arrested after a fight in a nightclub when his DNA was matched with the package.
Fortunately the grenade didn’t explode.
The man tried to argue in court it was his intention the grenade would fail – he only wanted to scare the editorial staff.
Judges at the Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona rejected his story. He can still appeal to the Federal Court in Lausanne.
