Police forces in Vaud and Fribourg are confirming they’re investigating a series of fires which they suspect may be arson.

The fire in Avenches last month which killed several horses, as well as another fire in Domdidier in Fribourg where 36 cows and calves died,  could have been started by the same person.

A local firefighter was initially arrested for the Avenches fire but has now been released.

Another fire in Dompierre, also in Fribourg, is being investigated. A suspect has been arrested in connection with that blaze – according to Fribourg police.

Investigators were also called out this weekend to a fire at a funeral chapel in St Aubin in Fribourg – but that has been determined as accidental. A faulty air conditioner is to blame.
