First person in Switzerland convicted over Facebook likes
A 45 year old man in Zurich has become the first person in the country to be convicted on the basis of Facebook likes.
The court heard Erwin Kessler liked and shared posts on the social media site which glorified anti-Semitic comments and opinions.
He also promoted comments said to be racist and fascist.
The prosecution said his actions made the posts more accessible to others. Kessler defended his actions by saying the posts were ‘true’.
The defendant has already been convicted of racism in the past.
The court fined him CHF 4,000. But he has the right to appeal to a higher court.
