Increased security at National Day celebrations
Basel police say there will be increased security at the major fireworks display on Sunday night to mark Swiss national day.
More than 100,000 people are expected to line the banks of the Rhine at 11pm to watch the traditional display.
A Basel police spokesman says the heightened measure are due to the recent attacks in Germany and France – both countries share a border with the region.
The police are not releasing specific details – but say there will be more officers visible at the event.
Other cantons have also confirmed extra security at their events.
Pierre-Antoine Hildbrand from the Lausanne authority told 20 minutes that their contacts at the Confederation say there are no specific terrorist threats.
