Afghanistan, Sudan & Philippines

UN Roundup

Monday, January 10th, 2022 - 8 minutes

Every Monday morning at 09:40am we chat to Daniel Johnson about what's happening at the UN.

This week:
Afghanistan’s deepening humanitarian crisis prompts a fresh appeal for help from the international community from the UN’s emergency relief office and refugee agency.

In Sudan, protests continue at the military takeover last October and demonstrators are still being killed by an excessive use of force by security services, as Seif Magnango from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) explains.

We also discuss the aftermath of super typhoon Rai which has left Philippines communities shattered and extremely vulnerable, three weeks after it hit the archipelago. Listen to Daniel Johnson's podcast "UN Catch-Up Dateline Geneva" and the upcoming episode this Friday 14 January for more information about this.
