Carouge Character - a truly magical Carouge this winter

Listen Again

Tuesday, 30 November 2021 - 4 minutes

In this episode of Carouge Character we take a look at Carouge in it's most magical state! For the past couple of winters, Carouge has combined art, light and poetry to create a magical feeling throughout the city, pulling us out of the doom and gloom, and turning the grey months into enchanted moments. This year the illuminated artworks are back! The colourful lanterns are back lighting up the chestnut trees in front of the newly renovated Théatre de Carouge. The famous flock of white origami birds about to take flight have returned to Carouge's streets and the new additions - a school of small tropical fish - affectionately nicknamed the “Grey Angels”, weave their way through the buildings of the rue Vautier.

We look at some of the artists behind these magical creations in this year's edition of Carouge Magique; Cédric Le Borgne, and Katia De Conti

If you want to make sure not to miss a thing, you can take a guided tour of the lights and installations on Friday and Saturday nights!

This year's Christmas market will take place 10-12 December, with the Musique Municipale de Carouge parading through the streets on the 11th.

You can let yourself be guided through Vieux Carouge by the trail of stars paving the way. And at its heart, you’ll find the ice skating rink, which should be rewarded with a fondue. Or listen to the podcast to hear our alternatives (cheesy and otherwise).

Shops will be open throughout Carouge every Sunday of December, and you can also pick your Christmas tree, send a letter to Santa, or add your wish to the wishing tree!
