UNHCR and WFP get more funds after NY UN meeting
The Geneva based UNHCR, together with the World Food Programme are to get an injection of money following a meeting at the UN in New York.
The G7 countries, as well as Gulf countries and Switzerland, have agreed to give USD 1.8bn to the agencies to provide food, shelter and medical assistance to the refugees.
The German foreign minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, says the whole world is talking about refugees and the current crisis in Europe in the largest refugee movement since the Second World War.
The UN is asking member states for a record USD 20bn to cope with the migrant crises.
