UN Roundup - Syria Constitutional talks and safety of journalists

UN Roundup// Mid Morning Mix // Communications// Politics // Aug. 31, 2020

31 Aug 2020.

1 - The third round of Syria Constitutional talks at UN Geneva concluded this weekend. We ask what progress was made? What was the cost of the Covid Interruption at the start of the talks and will they meet again?

“It is calmer and that is obviously conducive to the talks that we are having. But at the same time, I think we have agreed the principle that the talks that are happening here in Geneva do not depend on the situation on the ground. We are, you know, in all my briefings to the Security Council, this is one of the key issues I am addressing, and appealing for the parties to make sure that we develop this calm into what we have called in line with Security Council Resolution 2254, a nationwide ceasefire.” Geir Pedersen, UN Special Envoy for Syria.

2 - Safety of Journalists in a time of crisis – Tuesday 1 September - event at UN Geneva from 10am-1pm with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet and Swiss President Simonetta Sommaruga – places limited. Register here

3 - Sustainable Development Goals exhibition from the Perception Change team at UN Geneva + Fondation Pour Genève – from Friday 4 September for a week. Focusing on 10 goals and how everyone can make their own contribution to sustainable change.
