UN Roundup - Cov19 and UNAIDS Chief Executive Winnie Byanyima

UN Roundup// Mid Morning Mix // Health// Politics // June 15, 2020

15 June 2020.

On today's UN Round-up:

1 - UNAIDS Chief Executive Winnie Byanyima explains that any vaccine for Coronavirus should be free and should not come at the expense of the fight against HIV/ AIDS

“We want to be sure that manufacturers do not switch from producing commodities for prevention and treatment for HIV in order to manufacture for the coronavirus… It cannot be one pandemic against another, it has to be both. And this is easy to see happening. You may see that a test kit costs 10 times more than a condom in terms of profits.”

2 - Human Rights Council resumes its work put on hold from last session, today at 10am. Yesterday, Senior UN officials published a joint letter calling for action against systemic racism and recalling the UN’s successes in helping to end colonialism and apartheid.

3 - Sustainable Development Goals update – 170 actions to combat climate change – PerceptionChange Project team.
