New Covid rules from Monday
The Federal Council has confirmed tighter Covid regulations - which will start on Monday 18th January and will last until the end of February.
Non-essential shops are closed, bars and restaurants remain closed, work from home a very strong recommendation.
We're heading back a lock down. The government says from Monday all non-essential shops will have to close and anyone who can work from home has to.
The Federal Council says the infection rate is still too high and says the restrictions brought in in December will stay until the end of February.
Bars, restaurants, sports and leisure centres will stay closed as will cultural centres.
The Federal Health Office says there were - an exceptional number of deaths recorded in 2020 in Switzerland. Mainly the elderly.
On Wednesday there were 3,001 additional cases in 24 hours, with a positivity rate of 10.32%. 58 additional deaths and 147 patients were hospitalized. The incidence (number of new cases in 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants) is 477.5.
- The governemnt recommends keeping a distance of 1.5 meters from people who are not from the same household, wearing a mask if this distance cannot be maintained and respecting hygiene rules.
