Midwife cleared of speeding
A midwife caught speeding on the autoroute has had her fine and suspension quashed after she claimed it was a medical emergency.
Many emergency workers have expressed concern they may be caught up with the new tough laws against speeding – police and paramedics say they have slowed down during emergency call outs for fear they could be targeted.
The mid-wife was flashed at 158kph – after the safety margin was removed – on the A1 between Nyon and Coppet at 3.15 one morning.
The midwife was responding to call where a woman had gone into labour early and the husband reported the baby’s head was blue.
The midwife told the court she decided to go to the home immediately.
The court backed her – cancelled her fine and suspension and awarded her CHF 1,000 in costs.
