Emergency lane use a success

Travel // Oct. 27, 2014

For regular travellers on the A1, you’ll be pleased to know that research on the effectiveness of using emergency lanes - or hard shoulders - during peak hour has been a success.

Emergency lane use a success

The EPFL's Traffic Facilities Laboratory (LAVOC) has been conducting a study, which shows that traffic flow has increased by 750 vehicles per-hour when the emergency lanes are open.

Professor Andrè-Gilles Dumont was one of lead researchers on the study and explained to Tony on Drivetime, that permanent use of the emergency lanes won't be happening any time soon and the only solution to the jams in the area is simply more lanes.
