Memory improved by links to colors, senses

Only a few people associate letters and numbers with colors… except art students, according to a new study from the University of Bern.

Synesthesia isthe process of remembering something by associating it with a smell, taste, sound or color. It is credited with outstanding memory and creativity.

Alex Helmick talks to Beat Meier with the Department for General Psychology and Neuropsychology at the University of Bern.

Beat Meier’s two studies on synesthesia were published in the journals “Perception” and “Memory”. His studies show that those who associate items with smell, taste, sound and color performed better on standardized memory tests.
