Swiss People's Party outraged at 'racist' poster ban

A poster the right wing Swiss People’s Party had planned to use during its anti-minaret campaign has been banned in Basel City for being racist.

Voters will decide at the end of November on an initiative to ban the construction of minarets in Switzerland. The poster shows a woman in a burka alongside a Swiss flag which has missile-shaped minarets sprouting out of it.

In Lucerne, Zurich and Winterthur, authorities are waiting on a report due out today by the Federal Commission against Racism, before deciding whether to issue a ban on the poster.

Oskar Freysinger, a member of parliament, from the Swiss People’s Party, told Carla Drysdale that if other Swiss cities follow Basel’s lead, it will only give publicity to the Party’s goal to ban minarets in Switzerland.

Oskar, Boss man listen up! Other Swiss cities banning your poster could make you famous internationally. The press could glamorize you and your party appearing to be a Swiss-made time bomb but more likely a stink bomb.
