Can anyone explain the reason why the Swiss are always panicked by the thought of being ’part’of something. It is as if participating in things will somehow interfere with their autonomy. Are they perhaps afraid that their national identity is so flimsy, that if they join larger organisations, that they will be swallowed up, and their identity will disappear altogether. They only joined UN very recently, so perhaps they feel that their neutrality will be affected by trading in the EU. I really don’t understand, perhaps they can explain better themselves why they are afraid.
