Old computers never die
Researchers in Switzerland have unveiled results of a pilot project to tackle the problem of electronic waste or e-waste in Africa. Scientists from EMPA - that’s the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research in Dübendorf - have carried out studies in South Africa, Morocco and Kenya. They wanted to see what’s actually going on in those countries as well as test methods that help make recycling of electronic equipment safer. EMPA has been working in partnership with computer maker Hewlett-Packard, whose Swiss headquarters are also in Dübendorf, and the Digtal Solidarity Fund based in Geneva. Vincent Landon has more:
