Consumer group slams Cisalpino trains

The high-speed train link between Switzerland and Italy, the Cisalpino, has been in and out of the headlines in recent months, as passengers faced technical problems, disruptions and delays. Yesterday, it was confirmed that passengers traveling between Basel and Milan will have to make do with ordinary Swiss trains, and will have to change in Domodossola for several weeks while Cisalpino trains are sent for repair. The national rail company says the change should only mean a couple of extra minutes of journey time.

Cisalpino says it’s very sorry for the delays, and will compensate passengers whose trains were more than 45 minutes late. Representing the interests of passengers is Pro Bahn, the Swiss organization for rail users. To get their view on the problems plaguing Cisalpino trains, World Radio Switzerland’s Catherine Allen spoke to the organisation’s Vice President, Kurt Schreiber.
