Darren Mackie is a Second Assistant Director. His job consists of organising the on-set and off-set life of all the people that will be shooting at any given time on a specific shooting day. Unlike what the title may evoke, a second AD is not working on set next to the Director: His main job is to prepare the so-called “call sheet”. His job requires great concentration and it is done together with other key production roles, such as production coordinator, production manager, accommodation and travel manager, hair and make up artist, prosthetics, etc.
This is the job tale of a Second Assistant Director, aka the 2nd AD.
